SVIMS Unveils Major Cancer Care Expansion and Awareness Drive in Tirupati

On the eve of World Cancer Day, the Sri Venkateswara Institute of Medical Sciences (SVIMS), managed by the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD), launched a comprehensive series of awareness initiatives in Tirupati. The event highlighted significant advancements in cancer care infrastructure and community outreach programs.

New ₹120 Crore Advanced Cancer Facility to Open Soon

Speaking at a workshop organized by SVIMS, TTD in-charge Executive Officer Ch Venkaiah Chowdary made a major announcement. He revealed that a state-of-the-art advanced cancer care facility, established with a budgetary allocation of ₹120 crore, will be inaugurated shortly at SVIMS.

Venkaiah Chowdary detailed the features of this new center, which will include five modern intensive care units, 300 additional beds exclusively for cancer patients, and the latest medical equipment designed to treat cancer at every stage. He praised the medical team for their expertise and reiterated TTD's commitment to providing world-class infrastructure.

"Our goal is to ensure that no patient is ever turned away due to a lack of facilities," Chowdary emphasized, underscoring the institution's dedication to accessible healthcare.

Free Cancer Treatment and Successful Rural Screening Initiatives

SVIMS Director RV Kumar addressed the audience, delivering a message of hope. He asserted that cancer is no longer a death sentence, thanks to advancements in medical science and the availability of quality treatment at SVIMS.

Kumar highlighted that comprehensive cancer care is accessible to all patients free of cost through government schemes such as NTR Vaidya Seva and the Pranadanam scheme. This ensures financial barriers do not hinder access to life-saving treatments.

The director also emphasized the remarkable success of the Pink Bus initiative, a mobile screening program launched by SVIMS to facilitate free cancer screening in rural and remote areas.

  • SVIMS has conducted 730 screening camps to date.
  • Approximately 42,609 individuals have been screened through these efforts.
  • Out of those screened, 3,226 patients were referred to SVIMS for further treatment.
  • Among the referred patients, 759 have achieved full recovery, showcasing the program's effectiveness.

This integrated approach—combining cutting-edge infrastructure with extensive community outreach—positions SVIMS as a leading center in the fight against cancer in the region, offering both advanced medical solutions and equitable access to care.
