Andhra Pradesh has recorded a significant surge in suspected heatstroke cases as summer temperatures spike across the state. According to official data, a total of 325 suspected heatstroke cases were reported between March 1 and May 19, with approximately one-third of these cases emerging since the beginning of May.
Rising Heatwave Impact
The state has been experiencing unusually high temperatures, leading to a sharp increase in heat-related illnesses. Health authorities are closely monitoring the situation and have issued advisories urging residents to take precautions against extreme heat. The majority of cases have been reported from districts in coastal and inland regions where temperatures have consistently exceeded 40 degrees Celsius.
Government Response
In response to the rising number of cases, the Andhra Pradesh government has activated emergency protocols in hospitals and primary health centers. Cooling centers have been set up in public places, and awareness campaigns are being conducted to educate the public on heatstroke prevention measures, such as staying hydrated, avoiding direct sun exposure during peak hours, and wearing light clothing.
Health officials have also been instructed to ensure the availability of essential medicines and intravenous fluids at all healthcare facilities. The state disaster management authority is on high alert and coordinating with local bodies to mitigate the impact of the heatwave.
Public Advisory
Residents are advised to limit outdoor activities, especially between 11 a.m. and 4 p.m., and to watch for symptoms of heatstroke, including dizziness, nausea, headache, and confusion. Immediate medical attention is recommended if symptoms appear. The state health department continues to track the situation and will provide updates as necessary.
