Dhubri Diarrhoea Prevention Campaign Targets 1.77 Lakh Kids

Dhubri: The Dhubri district has launched the ‘Diarrhoea Prevention Campaign 2026’ to cover 1,77,279 children below five years of age. The programme will run until July 31. The initiative comes amid a rise in diarrhoeal cases during the rainy season, prompting the health department to intensify preventive measures, especially in sandbar, remote, and border villages.

Campaign Implementation

The awareness programme is being launched and monitored by the Dhubri District Health Society. Campaigns will be conducted in every block across the district. A source from the health society stated that the campaign will focus on preventing diarrhoea among children by promoting health guidelines, hygiene and sanitation practices, and precautions around food consumption during rainy and extremely warm weather.

Role of ASHA Workers and Support Departments

A special awareness drive will involve Accredited Social Health Activist (ASHA) workers and medical college paramedics. The social welfare, education, and public health engineering departments will provide technical support. Dhubri District Media Expert of National Health Mission, Moyez Uddin Ahmed, told TOI that ASHA workers will go door-to-door to distribute ORS (Oral Rehydration Solution) packets to families with children below five years.

“Since diarrhoea is a waterborne disease, the awareness campaign will stress consuming clean and fresh water sources and boiled water,” Ahmed added.
