Dibrugarh: In a coordinated effort, the Assam Rifles and Tirap police apprehended a member of the NSCN-K (Ang Mai) faction during an operation in the Hydel area of Khonsa, Tirap district, Arunachal Pradesh, on Thursday. The operation was executed by the Khonsa Battalion of Assam Rifles, acting on specific intelligence inputs and working alongside local police forces.
Details of the Arrest
The individual taken into custody has been identified as Langsom Losu, also known as Gangsa, aged 32, who held the rank of self-styled sergeant. Security agencies confirmed his affiliation with the NSCN-K (Ang Mai) group. During the operation, authorities recovered a 7.65 mm pistol along with a magazine, 10 rounds of 7.65 mm live ammunition, and a bag from his possession. Losu, along with the seized items, has been handed over to Tirap police for further investigation and legal proceedings.
Background of NSCN-K (Ang Mai)
The NSCN-K (Ang Mai) is a Myanmar-based faction of the National Socialist Council of Nagaland. Formed in 2023 after a split within the Yung Aung faction, the group is led by chairman Ang Mai. It holds considerable sway in the Naga self-administered zone of Myanmar and along the India-Myanmar border. The outfit has openly opposed the Indian government's decision to construct border fencing along the Indo-Myanmar border.
Regional Context
Tirap district, which shares borders with Nagaland and Myanmar, has historically been a hotspot for insurgent activities and falls within the operational jurisdiction of the Assam Rifles.
