A tragic incident occurred in Jammu and Kashmir's Rajouri district, where a 60-year-old man died and seven others, including two children, were hospitalized after allegedly consuming a wild vegetable. The incident took place on Friday in Mohra village, Kotranka sub-division, approximately 40 kilometers from Rajouri town.
Victims and Treatment
The deceased was identified as Mohammad Hussain. Among those hospitalized are Mohammad Imran, aged 8, and Ratish Ali, aged 6. All affected individuals belong to two families. They were initially admitted to the Community Health Centre in Kandi and later transferred to the Government Medical College and Hospital in Rajouri for further treatment.
Official Statement
Officials stated on Saturday that prima facie, the case appears to be one of food poisoning. Investigations are underway to determine the exact cause of the illness. The wild vegetable consumed has not been identified, and authorities are collecting samples for analysis.
The incident has raised concerns about the consumption of wild plants, which can sometimes be toxic. Local health authorities have urged residents to exercise caution and avoid consuming unknown wild vegetables.
