The Lala Lajpat Rai University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences (LUVAS) in Hisar has inaugurated a dialysis facility for pet dogs at its veterinary clinical complex, marking a significant advancement in regional veterinary care. The service is intended for dogs with severe kidney ailments and is available after a detailed clinical evaluation.
Dialysis Service Details
According to a university spokesperson, dialysis is an advanced medical procedure that removes waste products and excess fluid from the blood when kidneys fail. The machine-based treatment aims to stabilise patients with serious kidney disorders and improve their chances of recovery. The service is currently limited to pet dogs and will be extended to other animal species in the future as infrastructure and technical capabilities expand.
The initiative was led by Dr Tarun Kumar and Dr Nilesh Sindhu, who headed the dialysis unit, with support from faculty, postgraduate students, interns, technical personnel, and other staff of the Veterinary Clinical Complex. Before launch, the LUVAS team underwent practical training under the guidance of Dr Randhir Singh, in charge of the Nephrology Section at Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University (GADVASU), Ludhiana.
Impact and Future Plans
The Vice-Chancellor Dr Vinod Kumar Verma and Dean of the College of Veterinary Sciences Dr Rajesh Khurana congratulated the clinical team, stating that the facility would benefit pet owners not only in Haryana but also from neighbouring states. Dr Verma affirmed that LUVAS will continue to strengthen modern veterinary healthcare through advanced clinical services and research. The dialysis service is expected to provide life-saving treatment for dogs suffering from kidney failure, reducing the need for pet owners to travel long distances for such specialised care.
The university plans to offer the service in a phased manner, with initial focus on dogs. As equipment and expertise develop, other animal species may be included. This initiative positions LUVAS as a key provider of advanced veterinary therapeutics in the region, addressing a growing demand for pet healthcare in Haryana and adjacent areas.
