Indian Army Neutralizes Multiple Explosive Threats in Critical Manipur Border Operation
In a significant security achievement, the Red Shield Division of the Indian Army's elite Spear Corps has successfully disarmed and destroyed nine improvised explosive devices (IEDs) along with two unexploded ordnances during an extensive month-long area sanitisation and de-mining operation. This crucial mission was conducted along the sensitive India-Myanmar border at Yangoubung in Manipur, as confirmed by defense officials on Wednesday.
Strategic Border Sanitisation Drive
The meticulously planned operation unfolded between Border Pillars 72 and 73, spanning from January 16 to February 17. This critical clearance drive was initiated following an official requisition from government agencies, with the primary objective of facilitating the resumption of previously stalled border fencing work in the region. Intelligence inputs had indicated the possible presence of IEDs and unexploded ordnance linked to former insurgent camps in the area, necessitating immediate action.
Challenging Operational Environment
Operating under exceptionally difficult conditions, the Army team navigated dense jungle terrain while managing challenging security circumstances. Despite these obstacles, they successfully cleared and sanitized a substantial 2.6-kilometer-long corridor with a width of 13 meters. The operation required specialized expertise and meticulous attention to detail to ensure complete safety and thoroughness in the clearance process.
Elimination of Serious Security Threats
During the comprehensive sanitisation effort, the explosives were systematically located and safely destroyed. Defense officials emphasized that this action eliminated what they described as a serious and imminent threat to both civilian lives and personnel engaged in critical infrastructure projects in the border region. The successful neutralization of these explosive devices has significantly enhanced security parameters in the area.
Paving Way for Infrastructure Development
The successful completion of this sanitisation operation has created a secure environment that now allows teams from the Survey of India and various construction agencies to resume their vital border infrastructure work. This development is particularly important for advancing strategic border fencing projects that had been suspended due to security concerns. The operation represents a crucial step forward in strengthening border security infrastructure while ensuring the safety of both military personnel and civilian workers in the region.
