Southern Railway Launches Special Buses in Chennai Amid Suburban Train Cancellations
Chennai: Special Buses for Commuters During Egmore Station Work

Southern Railway Initiates Special Bus Services in Chennai to Ease Commuter Woes

In a proactive move to address the challenges faced by daily travelers, Southern Railway has commenced the operation of special buses between Chennai Beach and Tambaram. This initiative, launched on Thursday, is a collaborative effort with the Metropolitan Transport Corporation (MTC), designed to mitigate the inconvenience caused by the mass cancellation of suburban trains. The cancellations are a direct result of ongoing redevelopment work at the Egmore railway station, which has disrupted regular train services.

Advanced Implementation to Support Commuters

Originally, the railways had announced plans to operate 20 special buses starting from Saturday, February 28, during peak hours. However, recognizing the urgent needs of office-goers, school students, and college students, the authorities decided to advance the launch to cover the rest of the week. This swift action aims to provide immediate relief to those relying on public transport for their daily commutes.

Seamless Travel with Valid Tickets

The chartered buses are equipped with ticket examiners from the railways, who verify passengers holding valid suburban train tickets and seasonal passes. This arrangement allows commuters to travel on these buses without incurring any additional costs, ensuring a smooth and cost-effective alternative during the service disruptions.

By providing alternative transport options, the authorities aim to ensure that daily travel remains as convenient as possible amidst the ongoing challenges.
