Indian Air Force to Conduct Major Exercise Vayushakti-26 in Pokhran
The Indian Air Force (IAF) is set to conduct a significant demonstration of its operational prowess with Exercise Vayushakti-26, scheduled for February 27, 2026, at the Pokhran Air-to-Ground Range in Jaisalmer. This high-profile event aims to showcase the IAF's comprehensive air power capabilities, emphasizing long-range precision strikes, multi-domain operations, and the integration of indigenous platforms as part of India's Aatmanirbhar Bharat initiative.
Showcasing Indigenous Strength and Operational Success
The exercise will highlight the success of Operation Sindoor, underscoring the IAF's role as a first responder in conflict scenarios. Guided by the core values of Achook, Abhedya aur Sateek, the drill seeks to reassure the nation by reaffirming the Indian Air Force's position as a key pillar of India's national security architecture. It will demonstrate the IAF's ability to rapidly dominate the operational environment and influence outcomes through decisive air operations.
Comprehensive Display of Air Power and Humanitarian Efforts
Exercise Vayushakti-26 will feature a full spectrum of operations, including humanitarian assistance and disaster response capabilities such as rapid airlift, rescue, and evacuation operations both in India and overseas. The event will involve an impressive array of aircraft and weapon systems:
- Fighter Aircraft: Tejas, Rafale, Jaguar, Mirage 2000, Sukhoi-30MKI, MiG-29, and Hawk.
- Transport and Helicopter Platforms: C-130J, C-295, C-17, Chetak, ALH Mk-IV, Mi-17 IV, LCH, Apache, and Chinook.
- Advanced Weapon Systems: Short-range loitering munitions, Akash and SpyDer surface-to-air missiles, and counter-unmanned aerial systems.
The exercise will include 77 fighter aircraft, 43 helicopters, and eight transport aircraft, deploying 277 weapons and 12,000 kg of explosives across day, dusk, and night missions.

Air Force Vice Chief Air Marshal Nagesh Kapoor emphasized that Exercise Vayushakti-26 is designed to demonstrate the IAF's capability to win future conflicts, its deterrence strength, and long-range targeting superiority. The exercise is expected to test tactical and strategic capabilities, reinforce India's regional deterrence posture, and showcase the operational and technological strengths of IAF personnel and platforms.
