In a remarkable display of spontaneity, French President Emmanuel Macron surprised residents and visitors alike when he embarked on a brief morning run along Mumbai's iconic Marine Drive. Dressed in a simple navy blue T-shirt, black shorts, and running shoes, President Macron seamlessly blended into the local jogging community. Notably absent was the typical entourage of security personnel and convoy vehicles that usually accompany visiting heads of state. Neither the road nor the footpath was cordoned off for his run, allowing him to experience the city like any ordinary citizen.
A few security personnel did accompany him, maintaining a discreet distance by running a few paces behind. Fellow joggers were visibly surprised, many stopping in their tracks to capture photos of the French leader on their mobile phones. In preparation for the presidential visit, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) had undertaken road leveling works along the motorcade route in Colaba, ensuring smooth passage for official vehicles.
Paying Tribute to 26/11 Victims
Following his morning run, President Macron engaged in a solemn act of remembrance. He paid homage to the victims of the devastating 26/11 terror attacks at the Taj Mahal Palace Hotel in Colaba, where he was staying during his visit. This location holds particular significance as two French citizens were among those killed in the 2008 attacks.
Accompanied by First Lady Brigitte Macron, the President laid a wreath at the Tree of Life memorial. The floral tribute thoughtfully incorporated the colors of the French flag—blue, white, and red—through carefully selected blossoms and ribbons.
