MP Chowta Alerts Foreign Minister on Fake Job Recruitment Crisis Targeting Coastal Karnataka Youth

In a significant development, Dakshina Kannada MP Capt Brijesh Chowta has brought to the attention of Foreign Minister S Jaishankar a grave issue concerning the exploitation of youth from coastal Karnataka. The MP highlighted that many young individuals are being deceived and trapped in Gulf and South Asian countries through fraudulent job recruitment agencies, leading to severe hardships and cyber fraud incidents.

Meeting with Foreign Minister Jaishankar in New Delhi

Capt Brijesh Chowta met with Foreign Minister S Jaishankar on Friday in New Delhi to discuss urgent measures to enhance the safety of Indian citizens seeking employment abroad. The MP emphasized the need for strict actions to prevent fraud and protect vulnerable job seekers from falling victim to unscrupulous agencies.

During the discussion, Chowta pointed out that youth from coastal Karnataka often travel to countries like those in the Gulf and South Asia with high hopes of securing lucrative jobs. However, in recent years, numerous cases have emerged where these individuals have been ensnared by cyber fraud after arriving abroad through fake or fraudulent recruitment channels. This has resulted in complaints of being stranded without employment or not receiving the promised work conditions.

Urgent Calls for Government Intervention and Awareness Campaigns

The MP urged Minister Jaishankar to take necessary steps through the Ministry of External Affairs to curb this fraudulent network. Key recommendations included:

  • Implementing pre-departure counselling programs to educate potential migrants about the risks and red flags associated with fake agencies.
  • Launching extensive awareness campaigns to inform the public about fraudulent recruitment practices and how to verify legitimate opportunities.
  • Strengthening coordination with recruitment agencies to ensure compliance with regulations and ethical standards.
  • Enhancing supervision systems in high-risk countries to monitor and assist Indian citizens facing difficulties abroad.

Recent Incidents Highlight the Urgency of the Issue

Recently, several youths from Karnataka, including those from Mangaluru, traveled to Cambodia and encountered significant troubles after falling into the traps set by cyber fraudsters. These individuals faced dire situations, including being trapped without jobs or subjected to exploitative conditions.

Thanks to the intervention and continuous follow-up by the Ministry of External Affairs, five youths from Mangaluru were successfully rescued from their perilous circumstances in Cambodia and safely repatriated to India. This incident underscores the critical need for proactive measures to prevent such occurrences in the future.

Capt Brijesh Chowta's advocacy aims to safeguard the aspirations and well-being of Indian youth seeking employment overseas, ensuring they are not victimized by deceptive practices. The government's response to these concerns will be crucial in addressing this growing challenge and protecting citizens from international job fraud.
