Pakistan Senate Unanimously Condemns Israeli PM's 'Hexagon of Alliances' Plan
In a significant diplomatic move, the Pakistan Senate on Tuesday unanimously adopted a resolution strongly condemning Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's proposal to create a 'hexagon of alliances'. The resolution, passed with full consensus, labels this initiative as a deliberate attempt by Israeli leadership to undermine the unity and integrity of the Muslim Ummah.
Netanyahu's Strategic Vision for Regional Alliances
According to reports from The Times of Israel, Netanyahu outlined his plan to build a hexagon of alliances involving key nations such as India, Arab states, African countries, and Mediterranean nations. He stated, 'Israel will create an entire system — essentially a kind of hexagon of alliances — around or within the Middle East.' The Israeli PM emphasized that the goal is to strengthen coordination among like-minded countries to counter what he described as radical axes in the region.
Netanyahu further elaborated, 'The intention here is to create an axis of countries that see reality, the challenges, and the goals in the same way, in contrast to the radical axes. Both the radical Shiite axis, which we have hit very hard, and also the emerging axis — the radical Sunni axis. All these countries share a different outlook, and cooperation between us can yield very great fruits and, of course, also ensure our strength and our future.'
Pakistan's Strong Rejection and Concerns
The resolution, moved in the Senate by PPP's Palwasha Mohammad Zai Khan, expressed deep concern over what it termed as continued provocative steps and statements by Israeli leadership. It specifically denounced Netanyahu's latest statement about forming alliances against Muslim nations, viewing it as a direct threat to regional and international peace and stability.
Additionally, the Senate resolution condemned Israel's actions on multiple fronts, including:
- Attempts to undermine the sovereignty, unity, and territorial integrity of Islamic countries.
- The announcement recognizing the independence of the Somaliland region of Somalia.
- Continued violations of the Gaza ceasefire agreement and disregard for international law, the UN Charter, and resolutions from the UN General Assembly and Security Council.
- Disregard for the advisory opinion of the International Court of Justice.
Broader Implications and Demands
The House expressed strong concern over what it called the 'vile proclivity of the leadership of the Israeli occupying power towards diminishing the unity and integrity of Muslim Ummah on political and ideological grounds.' It firmly rejected any attempts to alter the legal or historical status of the Occupied Palestinian Territory, including holy sites, impose new administrative realities, expand settlement activities, encourage settler violence, or forcibly displace Palestinians.
In its demands, the Senate urged the international community to end Israeli impunity and hold Israel accountable for its crimes against humanity and provocative actions that threaten regional countries. Key demands include:
- Full Israeli withdrawal from all occupied territories.
- Increased humanitarian assistance to Palestinians in Gaza through agencies like the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees.
- Support for early recovery and reconstruction efforts in Gaza.
Reaffirmation of Pakistan's Stance on Palestine
The resolution reaffirmed Pakistan's historic and unwavering support for the Palestinian people's right to self-determination. It called for the establishment of an independent State of Palestine based on pre-1967 borders, with Al-Quds Al-Sharif as its capital. This stance underscores Pakistan's long-standing commitment to the Palestinian cause amid evolving regional dynamics.
This development comes at a time when Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi is on a visit to Israel, where he addressed a special plenary session of the Knesset, marking a historic moment as the first Indian prime minister to address the Israeli parliament. The Pakistan Senate's resolution highlights the complex geopolitical landscape and the ongoing tensions in the Middle East, emphasizing the need for diplomatic vigilance and international cooperation to address these challenges.
