Thiruvananthapuram Airport Enhances Emergency Response with New Crash Fire Tenders

Thiruvananthapuram Airport has significantly bolstered its aircraft rescue and firefighting (ARFF) capabilities with the induction of three state-of-the-art Panther CFT crash fire tenders from Rosenbauer. This strategic addition aims to enhance emergency response efficiency and firefighting readiness at the facility.

Advanced Features for Rapid and Effective Firefighting

Each of the new crash fire tenders is equipped with cutting-edge technology to ensure swift and effective action during critical situations. Powered by a robust 700HP engine, these vehicles can accelerate from 0 to 80km/h in under 30 seconds, enabling rapid deployment to the runway in emergencies. This quick response time is crucial for addressing aircraft incidents promptly.

The tenders are designed with comprehensive firefighting resources, including 12,500 litres of water, 1,500 litres of foam, and 250kg of dry chemical powder. This arsenal significantly enhances on-site firefighting readiness and operational resilience, allowing for versatile response to various fire types.

Innovative Safety and Operational Capabilities

A standout feature of these vehicles is the inclusion of under-truck nozzles, which spray water to protect the tender from ground fires. This allows the trucks to be driven over minor ground fires safely, ensuring that firefighting operations can continue uninterrupted even in challenging conditions.

Additionally, the vehicles boast a roof throw capability of 90 metres, providing extensive coverage for firefighting efforts. Their design facilitates quick arrival at the runway, efficient foam spreading, and strategic deployment at vantage points during emergency landings or when an aircraft develops an emergency.

An official from the airport highlighted the importance of these enhancements, stating that the new tenders will play a vital role in improving overall safety and response protocols. The integration of modern technology not only strengthens firefighting capabilities but also ensures that the airport is better prepared to handle potential incidents with greater efficiency and effectiveness.
