The Archbishop's packed schedule began with a concelebrated Mass at the Cathedral on Saturday evening, which was attended by clergy members from across the Garo Hills region. Following this solemn ceremony, he visited the graves of past Bishops, offering special prayers in a gesture of reverence and continuity.

Later, a public reception was held in his honor at the Sacred Heart Church in Chandmari, Tura. The event showcased the rich indigenous culture of the area, with Archbishop Girelli witnessing a traditional cultural programme at the Sacred Heart Shrine, highlighting the deep integration of faith and local heritage.

Grand Pontifical Mass Scheduled for Sunday

The visit culminates on Sunday with a Pontifical Mass scheduled for 9:30 AM at the Sacred Heart Shrine Gate in Tura. This high-profile religious service is anticipated to draw an immense gathering of Catholic faithful from across Meghalaya and neighboring regions, reflecting the widespread enthusiasm and spiritual devotion inspired by this historic occasion.

This unprecedented visit by the Vatican's top diplomatic representative to India and Nepal not only strengthens the bonds between the Holy See and the Christian communities of Meghalaya but also highlights the region's pivotal role in the broader Catholic landscape of the country.
