Visakhapatnam Prepares for International Naval Delegates During Fleet Review
Visakhapatnam is gearing up to welcome approximately 200 international naval delegates each day from February 16 to 20 as part of the upcoming International Fleet Review. To facilitate these visits, tourist attractions under the Visakhapatnam Metropolitan Region Development Authority (VMRDA) will remain closed to the general public for half a day during this five-day period.
Substantial Investment in Tourism Infrastructure
The VMRDA has invested nearly Rs 2 crore in recent weeks to give a comprehensive facelift to key tourist sites. This significant expenditure has been directed toward painting, sanitation, greenery development, and other related improvements to ensure the attractions meet international standards.
Key Attractions on the Delegates' Itinerary
According to VMRDA chairman Pranav Gopal and metropolitan commissioner Tej Bharath, the international delegates will visit several prominent locations:
- Sea Harrier Museum: Showcasing decommissioned naval aircraft
- TU-142 Aircraft Museum: Featuring historic maritime aircraft
- Kursura Submarine Museum: Offering insights into submarine history
- UH-3H Helicopter Museum: Displaying retired naval helicopters
- Kailasagiri Hilltop Park: Providing panoramic views of the coastline
- Thotlakonda: A nearly 2,000-year-old Buddhist heritage site
Focus on Global Brand Image
"We have specifically focused on these tourist attractions for the International Fleet Review," explained Pranav Gopal and Tej Bharath. "As the event is closely linked to the global brand image of the city, we have taken special care with the works and given a facelift to several tourist attractions. We have conducted a series of field inspections to ensure that the works meet the required objectives and quality standards."
The museums featuring decommissioned naval aircraft and submarines offer visitors a unique glimpse into India's maritime defence history, while Kailasagiri provides breathtaking views of the Bay of Bengal coastline.
Comprehensive Refurbishment Efforts
The VMRDA has undertaken comprehensive refurbishment of all these locations, with particular attention to:
- Fresh painting and aesthetic improvements
- Enhanced sanitation facilities
- Greenery development and landscaping
- Infrastructure upgrades and maintenance
- Historical preservation at heritage sites
This initiative represents a significant effort to showcase Visakhapatnam's cultural and historical heritage to an international audience while strengthening the city's position as a premier destination for major international events.
