Koraput district conducts electoral roll revision in border village
Electoral roll revision in Koraput border village

Koraput: The district administration of Koraput on Thursday carried out a Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls at Neredivalsa village under Kotia gram panchayat. The Pottangi tehsildar stated that the work in the panchayat, which borders Andhra Pradesh, is nearing completion.

"Around 90% of the exercise has already been completed. Our objective is to ensure that no eligible voter is left out and that all electoral records are accurate and updated," said tehsildar Debandra Dharua.

Under the SIR programme, officials assisted villagers with voter enrolment, verification, and correction of records to guarantee that all eligible residents are included in the electoral roll.

The electoral exercise was conducted alongside a multiservice camp that provided healthcare and youth development initiatives. Officials interacted with residents and addressed various civic and welfare-related concerns raised by them.

To promote sports among youth in the border villages, the district sports office distributed footballs, volleyballs, nets, kit bags, and sports jerseys to local clubs and children.

Pottangi block development officer (BDO) Ramakrishna Nayak said the SIR exercise aims to ensure that every eligible citizen can exercise their democratic right. Such outreach programmes help bridge the gap between the administration and people in remote areas while ensuring government services reach the grassroots level, he added.

Villagers welcomed the initiative and expressed satisfaction over the availability of multiple services at their doorstep. Officials reiterated their commitment to organizing similar camps in the future to accelerate development and improve public service delivery in the region.

The Kotia cluster has been at the center of a long-standing boundary dispute between Odisha and Andhra Pradesh, with both states claiming administrative control over 21 of the 28 villages under the gram panchayat. The matter has been pending before the Supreme Court since 1968.
