Bihar Election 2025: Jailed JD(U) Candidate Leads in Mokama Amid Controversial Posters
Jailed JD(U) Candidate Leads in Bihar's Mokama Seat

Jailed Candidate Defies Odds in Bihar's High-Stakes Contest

In a dramatic turn of events during the Bihar Election 2025 counting process, Janata Dal (United) candidate Anant Kumar Singh has taken a surprising lead from the Mokama constituency despite currently being incarcerated. The political drama intensified as provocative posters emerged across the constituency, predicting the candidate's imminent release from prison.

Controversial Posters Surface During Vote Counting

As the Election Commission of India began tallying votes on counting day, supporters unveiled posters containing a bold message in Hindi: "Jail ka faatak tootega, hamara sher chootega" (The prison gates will break, our lion will be released). These posters appeared strategically timed with the counting process, creating a charged atmosphere in one of Bihar's most politically volatile constituencies.

The controversial messaging refers to Singh's current imprisonment following his arrest on November 2 in connection with the murder case of Dularchand Yadav, a supporter of the Jan Suraaj Party. The incident that led to his arrest occurred on October 30 during election campaigning for the Mokama seat.

Early Trends Show Surprising Lead

According to initial trends released by the Election Commission, Anant Kumar Singh is leading by 2,716 votes after the first round of counting. He faces competition from Rashtriya Janata Dal's Veena Devi, the wife of former MP and influential leader Surajbhan Singh.

The electoral battle in Mokama carries additional significance as both candidates belong to the Bhumihaar community, setting up a direct clash of political legacies in this strategically important constituency that voted during the first phase on November 6.

Murder Case and Arrest Details

Patna Police arrested Anant Kumar Singh along with two associates - Manikant Thakur and Ranjeet Ram - for their alleged involvement in the shooting death of Dularchand Yadav. The postmortem report confirmed that the JSP supporter died from cardiorespiratory failure due to shock following a bullet injury.

Despite his incarceration, Singh managed to maintain political visibility through social media. On November 2, shortly after his arrest, he shared a video message on Facebook expressing "complete faith" in the people's support. The video showed him being escorted by police personnel, and he captioned the post with "Satyamev Jayate! I have complete faith in the people of Mokama!! That's why now the people of Mokama will fight this election!"

The unfolding situation in Mokama represents one of the most unusual electoral scenarios in the Bihar Election 2025, demonstrating how criminal cases and incarceration don't necessarily diminish political prospects in certain constituencies.
