Anpara Thermal Plant Wins National Performance Excellence Award

UPRVUNL's Anpara Thermal Power Station Honored with National Performance Excellence Award

The Anpara thermal power station, operated by Uttar Pradesh Rajya Vidyut Utpadan Nigam Limited (UPRVUNL), has been awarded the prestigious performance excellence award for state generating stations for the fiscal year 2024–25. This recognition was announced at the O&M conference – Indian Power Stations 2026, a major industry event held in Raipur, Chhattisgarh.

Award Ceremony and Distinguished Presenters

The award was formally presented during a three-day conference organized by NTPC Corporate Operation Services from February 13 to 15, 2026. The honor was conferred by two eminent figures in the power sector: Pankaj Agarwal, Secretary of the Union Ministry of Power, and Gurdeep Singh, Chairman and Managing Director of NTPC. Their presence underscored the national significance of this achievement.

Recognition for Operational Excellence

Located in Sonbhadra, the Anpara power station is one of Uttar Pradesh's largest coal-based power plants. It was specifically recognized for its strong operational performance, high efficiency, and consistent reliability. These attributes have made it a cornerstone of the state's power infrastructure, contributing significantly to meeting energy demands.

Strategic Importance and Capacity

The plant is a key component of UPRVUNL, which boasts a total generating capacity of 9,646 MW. This capacity positions UPRVUNL as the second-largest state generating company in India, highlighting its critical role in the national power grid. The award not only celebrates Anpara's success but also reflects positively on the entire organization's capabilities.

Industry Response and Future Recommendations

Jitendra Singh Gurjar, General Secretary of the UP State Electricity Board Engineers Association, commented on the award, stating that it reflects the technical expertise, disciplined operations, and consistent efforts of UPRVUNL engineers. He credited their work to the guidance provided by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and State Power Minister Arvind Kumar Sharma.

Gurjar also took the opportunity to urge the state government to allocate the proposed Anpara ‘E' (2×800 MW) and Obra ‘D' (2×800 MW) projects entirely to UPRVUNL. This move is seen as essential to boosting the state's generation capacity, which currently stands at 9,646 MW against a peak demand of approximately 32,000 MW. Such expansion is crucial for addressing the growing energy needs of Uttar Pradesh and ensuring a stable power supply for its residents.
