Andhra Pradesh Forges Strategic Alliance with CSIR-NIScPR to Elevate Science Communication and Policy Framework
In a significant development aimed at establishing Andhra Pradesh as a premier destination for scientific advancement, innovation, and policy research, the Science City of Andhra Pradesh (SCAP) has entered into a strategic partnership with the CSIR–National Institute of Science Communication and Policy Research (NIScPR) based in New Delhi. This collaboration is designed to significantly enhance science communication efforts and reinforce evidence-based policymaking throughout the state.
Memorandum of Understanding Signed to Foster Collaborative Research and Public Engagement
A comprehensive Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was formally signed on Monday at the Secretariat, marking a pivotal step toward joint research initiatives in science, technology, and innovation (STI) policy. The agreement also focuses on increasing public engagement with scientific concepts and discoveries. This partnership aligns with the state government's ambitious vision to develop a world-class science city, supported by the central government, which will integrate science centers, museums, innovation hubs, research facilities, and experiential learning spaces.
Special Chief Secretary MT Krishna Babu emphasized that the MoU will substantially strengthen science communication and raise awareness through structured training programs, workshops, and research-driven initiatives. He noted, "This collaboration will support evidence-based policymaking and facilitate meaningful knowledge exchange among students, scholars, and researchers, creating a robust ecosystem for scientific growth."
Joint Initiatives to Include Research Projects, Publications, and Educational Programs
Under the terms of the agreement, both institutions will undertake joint research projects, publish studies, and organize seminars, workshops, and conferences for researchers, policymakers, and stakeholders. The collaboration will also prioritize educational programs, mentoring opportunities, and the promotion of scientific journals and outreach initiatives that are aligned with global development goals.
CSIR–NIScPR Director Geetha Vani Rayasam highlighted that the partnership will deepen science communication efforts while advancing STI policy research. She stated, "This alliance will enable academic and research support from school to university level and strengthen outreach programs that promote scientific awareness and foster an innovation culture across Andhra Pradesh."
Long-Term Vision for a Major Science City in Andhra Pradesh
SCAP CEO Venkateswarlu Kesineni underscored the state's long-term vision, noting that the collaboration brings national-level expertise to Andhra Pradesh. He explained, "We are planning to develop a major science city that will serve as a platform for innovation, research, and knowledge dissemination with support from the Centre. This initiative aims to nurture scientific temper and attract investments in emerging technology sectors, positioning the state as a hub for cutting-edge advancements."
The MoU was signed by Kesineni Venkat and Geetha Vani Rayasam in the presence of Krishna Babu, with CSIR scientists Dr. Yogesh Suman and Dr. NK Prasanna also attending the ceremony. This partnership represents a concerted effort to leverage expertise and resources for the advancement of science and technology in the region.
