Patna: The Bihar Urban Infrastructure Development Corporation Ltd (Buidco) has set up a dedicated 24x7 control room at its headquarters to enable real-time monitoring of waterlogging and facilitate rapid response across Patna and surrounding urban areas.
This special monsoon control room was established on the directives of Buidco managing director Animesh Kumar Parashar. A specialized team will operate in three shifts to ensure that waterlogging and drainage-related issues are addressed promptly. The facility will continuously monitor drainage pumping stations, temporary pumping units, and other critical locations to detect faults and coordinate immediate corrective measures.
“The control room is designed to provide live surveillance of pumping stations and strengthen the city’s flood management system during heavy rainfall. It will work closely with the Patna Municipal Corporation’s control room to swiftly resolve waterlogging complaints,” the MD stated.
Parashar explained that each shift will be led by a designated officer or deputy project director, supported by data entry operators responsible for collecting and updating field reports. The control room will receive status reports every 24 hours from all pumping stations, including details on operational pumps, breakdowns, power supply, diesel availability, water levels at sump houses, staff deployment, and rainfall recorded over the previous day.
He has directed officials to obtain hourly monitoring reports from sump houses to enable immediate emergency response in case of a sudden rise in water levels. The continuous monitoring mechanism aims to prevent disruptions and ensure drainage systems remain fully functional during the monsoon, Parashar added.
Officials also mentioned that residents have been urged to report severe waterlogging or related emergencies through the district control room and municipal helpline numbers.
