Delhi Metro Phase V(A) Approved: New 16km Route to Connect Central Vista, India Gate, and Airport T1
The Delhi government has officially approved three new corridors under the Delhi Metro Phase V(A) project, following clearance from the central government in December. This significant development aims to bolster public transport infrastructure in the capital, with an estimated total cost of Rs 12,014.91 crore. Chief Minister Rekha Gupta announced that the Delhi government will contribute Rs 2,940.46 crore towards this ambitious initiative.
Details of the Three Corridors
The three corridors, spanning a total of 16 kilometers and featuring 13 stations, are designed to enhance connectivity across key areas of Delhi. Of these stations, 10 will be constructed underground, while three will be elevated, ensuring efficient and modern transit solutions.
- RK Ashram Marg to Indraprastha via Central Vista: This corridor covers 9.91 kilometers with nine stations. It will pass through significant locations including Shivaji Stadium, Central Secretariat, Kartavya Bhawan, India Gate, War Memorial, High Court, and Bharat Mandapam. Chief Minister Gupta highlighted that this route will connect vital administrative and cultural hubs, such as the Kartavya Bhavan complexes, benefiting an estimated 60,000 government employees and nearly two lakh daily commuters. Additionally, it will improve connectivity between West, North, and Old Delhi with Central Delhi. The estimated cost for this corridor is Rs 9,570.40 crore, with the Delhi government contributing Rs 2,337.24 crore.
- Tughlakabad to Kalindi Kunj: Spanning 3.9 kilometers, this corridor includes three stations and is estimated to cost Rs 1,024.87 crore. The Delhi government will fund Rs 251.36 crore of this amount.
- Aerocity to Indira Gandhi International Airport Domestic Terminal 1: This 2.2-kilometer corridor features one station, with an estimated project cost of Rs 1,419.64 crore. The Delhi government's contribution is Rs 351.86 crore.
