Nightly Power Outages Disrupt Lives in Buxar and Dumraon
Erratic power supply in Buxar and Dumraon towns, especially at night, has left residents struggling during the extreme heat. Consumers in Dumraon’s Thatheri Bazar area alleged that prolonged outages have become routine over the past week.
“Every night, power supply remains disrupted from around 10pm to 1am. The problem is mainly affecting Thatheri Bazar. Even when we call the junior engineer, our calls go unanswered,” said Bhashmaker Dubey, a resident of Thatheri Bazar Road.
Another consumer, Abhishek Tiwari, expressed frustration and demanded immediate administrative intervention. “The authorities should take prompt action and replace the official concerned if the problem cannot be resolved,” he said.
Buxar Industrial Power House Faces Infrastructure and Staff Shortages
Meanwhile, the deteriorating condition of the Buxar Industrial Power House has exposed serious gaps in the electricity distribution system. Inadequate manpower and lack of resources led to chaotic scenes on Saturday night.
According to residents, nearly two dozen consumers reached the powerhouse around 1am on Sunday to lodge complaints of burnt wires, blown fuses and local faults affecting supply across the town. Some consumers allegedly warned that restoration work in certain areas would not be allowed unless their grievances were addressed first.
At the time, only two technicians — Bablu and Gulab — were on duty to handle complaints from a large part of the town. With no official vehicles available, several consumers used their own vehicles to transport technicians to fault locations, leading to heated arguments at the facility.
Residents Demand Better Night Response and Equipment
Residents alleged that senior engineers were unavailable and that the utility lacked adequate manpower, equipment and emergency response systems to tackle breakdowns during peak summer demand. “There are dedicated teams to conduct raids against power theft, but when genuine consumers face outages, there is a shortage of staff to restore supply,” a resident said.
They also claimed that poor-quality infrastructure — including wires, transformers and other distribution equipment — is unable to withstand increased load during extreme heat, resulting in frequent breakdowns and prolonged outages.
Consumers have demanded immediate strengthening of the night response system, deployment of additional technicians and engineers, creation of dedicated mobile repair teams for different feeders, and availability of official vehicles and equipment.
