In a proactive move to address chronic waterlogging issues, officials from the Municipal Corporation of Gurgaon (MCG) conducted comprehensive inspections of key vulnerable areas across the city. This initiative forms a critical part of the civic body's pre-monsoon preparedness strategy, launched after receiving explicit directives from state industries and commerce minister Rao Narbir Singh during a high-level meeting held on Monday.
Strict Deadline Set for Infrastructure Readiness
Minister Rao Narbir Singh emphasized the urgency of the situation, mandating that all necessary arrangements must be completed before the June 15 deadline. He stressed that every department involved must work cohesively to ensure residents do not face any inconvenience during the impending rainy season. Following instructions from MCG commissioner Vivek Dahiya, a specialized team led by additional commissioner Pooja Chanwaria undertook a thorough review of drainage infrastructure in multiple high-risk locations. The inspection covered Basai Road, Sector 9A, New Colony, Madanpuri Road, Sector 7, Beri Wala Bagh, Shivaji Nagar, and Rajnagar Chowk—areas historically prone to severe water accumulation during heavy rains.
During the site visits, Chanwaria issued clear instructions to engineering teams, directing them to expedite the cleaning of all drains, repair any damaged infrastructure, and ensure the availability of necessary resources well before the monsoon's arrival. She highlighted that timely implementation of these preventive measures is essential to minimize disruptions for Gurgaon's residents.
Sanitation and Accountability Emphasized
The inspection also included a detailed assessment of sanitation conditions in these areas. Officials have been instructed to guarantee timely garbage collection and maintain stringent cleanliness standards to prevent drainage blockages, which are a primary contributor to waterlogging during intense rainfall.
