Hubballi MLAs Lead Inspection for Critical 24x7 Water Supply Pipeline Project
In a significant development for Hubballi's infrastructure, MLAs Arvind Bellad and Prasad Abbayya conducted a thorough inspection of the stretch from Indi Pump Circle to Old Hubballi Road. The purpose of this site visit was to oversee and discuss the installation of a new 24x7 water supply pipeline, a project aimed at resolving long-standing water quality issues in the area.
Addressing Sewage Contamination and Infrastructure Challenges
Speaking to reporters after the inspection, MLA Arvind Bellad highlighted the urgent need for this project. He explained that the existing drinking water pipeline on this road has been severely damaged, leading to a critical problem where sewage water was mixing with the potable supply. This contamination has raised public health concerns and generated substantial demand from residents for a new, reliable pipeline system.
Bellad detailed the logistical challenges involved, noting that L&T, the contractor responsible, was originally supposed to install the pipeline before road development work commenced. However, delays and coordination issues necessitated a revised approach to avoid damaging the newly developed road. After extensive discussions with officials from various agencies, a strategic decision was made to proceed with the installation, with specific instructions issued to ensure minimal disruption.
Project Specifications and Traffic Impact
The MLA provided specific details about the project scope: 550 metres of new pipeline will be installed along the inspected stretch. To facilitate this, 3 metres of the road will be excavated, which is expected to affect traffic movement during the construction phase. Authorities have advised residents and commuters to plan alternative routes or expect delays until the work is completed.
Multi-Agency Coordination and Official Presence
The inspection and subsequent discussions involved a collaborative effort among multiple key agencies to ensure seamless execution. Officials from the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), Public Works Department (PWD), Larsen & Toubro (L&T), Karnataka Urban Infrastructure Development and Finance Corporation (KUIDFC), and Hubballi-Dharwad Municipal Corporation (HDMC) participated in the meetings, underscoring the project's importance and complexity.
Notably, the event saw the presence of high-ranking local officials, including HDMC Mayor Jyothi Patil and HDMC Commissioner Rudresh Ghali, along with other department heads and stakeholders. Their involvement highlights the municipal corporation's commitment to addressing infrastructure gaps and improving water supply reliability for Hubballi's citizens.
This project represents a critical step towards enhancing urban amenities and ensuring safe drinking water, with MLAs Bellad and Abbayya emphasizing ongoing monitoring to meet public expectations and timelines.
