Indore Municipal Corporation Intensifies Crackdown on Illegal Constructions
In a decisive move to curb the expansion of unauthorised settlements, the Indore Municipal Corporation (IMC) demolished sixteen illegal row houses in the Anjani Nagar and Jagdish Nagar areas on Monday. This action is part of an intensified campaign aimed at preventing public fraud and maintaining urban planning integrity.
Targeted Demolition Operations in Zone 4
The crackdown primarily focused on Zone 4, where officials identified multiple illegal constructions. In Anjani Nagar, four row houses illegally built near a drain were completely removed. Meanwhile, in the Banganga area of Jagdish Nagar, removal operations targeted twelve row houses. Officials disclosed that six of these were nearly complete, with finishing work underway, while the remaining six were still under construction.
Infrastructure Dismantling and Legal Violations
The civic body also dismantled roads and drainage systems that were being developed without any land diversion or valid development permissions in the Banganga area. This highlights the broader scope of the illegal activities, extending beyond just residential structures to include unauthorised infrastructure projects.
IMC official Ankesh Birthariya stated that the department took action after confirming that hundreds of square feet of construction lacked legal permits. The demolition team utilized three earth movers and over 70 municipal workers to carry out the operations, which proceeded smoothly without any local resistance.
Rapid Illegal Construction and Public Warnings
Authorities noted that the illegal houses were being built rapidly, often under the cover of night, with the intent to sell them to unsuspecting buyers. IMC commissioner Kshitij Singhal has instructed officials to maintain a strict vigil on unauthorised colonizers to prevent such public fraud.
The corporation has issued a strong appeal to citizens, urging them to verify all legal documents before purchasing plots or houses. The administration warned that Jagdish Nagar and other similar illegal developments are under continuous scrutiny, with ongoing actions planned against any construction lacking valid authorisation.
