Commissioner Leads Inspection to Prevent Monsoon Waterlogging

Karnal Municipal Corporation (MC) Commissioner Saloni Sharma conducted an extensive field inspection of major stormwater drains, drainage channels and disposal pumping stations across the city on June 28, 2026. The initiative aims to ensure the city remains free from waterlogging during the upcoming monsoon season.

Accompanied by officials from the Engineering and Sanitation wings, Sharma spent nearly three hours reviewing the progress of desilting and cleaning works at key locations. Earlier, she chaired a review meeting at the MC office, where she sought detailed updates from Executive Engineers regarding drain-cleaning operations in their respective divisions.

80% of Drain Cleaning Completed

During the meeting, officials informed the Commissioner that nearly 80 per cent of the cleaning work on the city's major drains had already been completed, while the remaining work was progressing at a rapid pace. Sharma directed the officials to complete the cleaning of all major stormwater drains by June 30.

She further directed that all disposal pumping stations should remain fully operational at all times. The Commissioner visited around 15 key locations, including the Dhobi Ghat drain, the Sector 7 drain, the Madhuban drain, the Ghazipur drain, the Indri road drain, and the Sector 13 drain.

Strict Action for Non-Compliance

Sharma also inspected the STP-based disposal pumping station, the Kabirpur disposal pumping station, the Sector 7 disposal pumping station, the Sector 13 disposal pumping station, the Madhuban disposal pumping station and the Ghazipur disposal pumping station. She expressed dissatisfaction with the slow progress of work at some locations and warned of strict action against officials found negligent in their duties.

According to a senior MC official, the corporation has deployed additional workers and machinery to ensure timely completion of the desilting work. The official added that the MC has also identified low-lying areas prone to waterlogging and is taking preventive measures.

Residents Urged to Cooperate

The Commissioner appealed to residents not to throw solid waste into drains, as it hampers the flow of water and leads to waterlogging. She said the MC would also launch an awareness campaign in this regard. With the deadline set for June 30, the MC is racing against time to ensure the city is prepared for the monsoon.
