Manesar Municipal Corporation to Establish Three C&D Waste Collection Centers

The Municipal Corporation of Manesar (MCM) has taken a significant step towards improving waste management by identifying three specific locations for the development of construction and demolition (C&D) waste collection centers. These sites are situated in Nainwal, Harsaru, and Sector 6, marking a strategic move to address the growing issue of construction debris in the region.

Project Details and Tender Process

Officials from the civic body have confirmed that the project involves hiring two separate agencies. One agency will be responsible for developing the sites, while the other will handle the transportation of the collected waste. The development work includes the installation of pre-coated galvanised iron sheets, precast boundary walls, and facilities for segregation and transportation of waste.

A tender has been floated for the site development at an estimated cost of Rs 2.1 crore. Additionally, another tender worth Rs 99 lakh has been issued to hire an agency for transporting the waste to designated locations. Currently, MCM is sending its C&D waste to the Basai plant, which falls under the jurisdiction of the Municipal Corporation of Gurugram (MCG).

Official Statements and Future Plans

MCM Commissioner Pradeep Singh stated that tenders have been issued for the collection and management of C&D waste within the corporation area. He emphasized, "Three sites have been identified and work on the ground will begin soon." This initiative is part of a broader effort to streamline waste disposal processes and enhance environmental sustainability.

In a related development, the Haryana State Industrial and Infrastructure Development Corporation (HSIIDC) is planning to set up a dedicated C&D waste processing plant in collaboration with a private company. This plant is expected to have a capacity of 100 tonnes per day. Officials highlighted that this move aims to curb illegal dumping of construction debris and ensure scientific disposal of waste, thereby protecting the environment and maintaining urban cleanliness.

Broader Waste Management Context

For the C&D waste generated in areas under MCG's jurisdiction, the Haryana government approved a proposal in August last year to enhance the capacity of the Basai C&D waste plant. The capacity is set to increase from 300 metric tonnes per day (TPD) to 1,200 TPD for one year, addressing the substantial waste generation in the region.

According to MCG estimates, the city generates nearly 1,500 to 2,000 tonnes of C&D waste daily. However, MCM officials noted that a survey is currently underway to ascertain the exact quantity of C&D waste generated within their area. Meanwhile, MCG has already identified sites such as Beagmpur Khatola, Babupur, and Daultabad for establishing C&D waste collection points, further expanding the waste management infrastructure in Gurgaon.
