Manipur Chief Minister Inspects Imphal Airport's New Integrated Terminal

Imphal: In a significant development for regional infrastructure, Manipur Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh conducted an on-site inspection of the ongoing construction of the new integrated terminal building at Imphal International Airport on Monday. The visit focused on the eastern flank of the airport, where the ambitious project is taking shape.

Progress Review and Government Assurance

During the inspection, airport officials provided a comprehensive briefing to the Chief Minister, detailing the current work progress and status of the terminal construction. According to official reports, the project is on track for completion by December of this year.

While interacting with representatives from the Airports Authority of India, Chief Minister Khemchand offered firm assurances of full government support. He emphasized that the state administration would extend all possible assistance to ensure the timely completion of this critical infrastructure project, underscoring its importance for Manipur's connectivity and economic growth.

Transformational Airport Upgrades

The new terminal building represents a substantial upgrade that will fundamentally transform airport operations and passenger experience in Imphal. Key enhancements include:

  • 24/7 Operations: The facility will enable round-the-clock airport functioning, extending operational hours from the current 12-14 hours per day to full 24-hour service.
  • Expanded Passenger Capacity: Passenger handling capacity will see a dramatic increase from 1.39 million passengers annually to 5 million passengers per annum.
  • Enhanced Parking Infrastructure: Parking capacity will expand significantly from the current 100 cars to 1,089 vehicles within the new integrated terminal complex.
  • Larger Facility Footprint: The terminal is being constructed across 23,000 square metres, compared to the existing 9,300 square metre area.

Earlier Infrastructure Inspection

Earlier on Monday morning, Chief Minister Khemchand visited the Paona Bazar area to assess ongoing road development works. During this inspection, he directed the Chief Engineer of the Public Works Department to accelerate construction efforts while maintaining stringent quality standards and ensuring timely project completion.

This dual focus on both airport and road infrastructure highlights the state government's comprehensive approach to improving transportation networks and connectivity across Manipur.
