Noida Sector 22 Residents Demand Urgent Road Repairs Amid Safety Concerns
Residents of Sector 22 in Noida have escalated their complaints regarding the rapidly deteriorating condition of the crucial internal road that connects residential blocks A to C. Originally constructed over seven years ago, this vital stretch has suffered repeated damage due to multiple excavations for installing water and sewer lines, leading to a proliferation of deep potholes and an uneven surface.
Monsoon Woes and Escalating Accident Risks
The situation becomes particularly hazardous during the monsoon season, when these potholes fill with rainwater, creating hidden traps that make the road extremely difficult and dangerous to navigate. Residents have expressed grave concerns about the heightened risk of accidents in an area that sees heavy foot traffic, including numerous senior citizens and young children.
"Since this road was first built, it has been dug up countless times for various utility works," explained Sudarshan Awasthi, a resident of Block A in Sector 22. "Now, the road is in a completely dilapidated state with multiple dangerous potholes. We have filed numerous complaints—both verbally and in writing—with the relevant Noida Authority departments, but we have only received empty promises without any concrete action."
Administrative Inaction and Resident Frustration
Awasthi further emphasized the growing frustration among the community, stating, "It almost feels like the administration is waiting for a serious accident to happen before they take this issue seriously. We are genuinely worried about everyone's safety."
Another resident highlighted the specific vulnerabilities of certain community members, saying, "Children playing outside and seniors taking their daily walks are at significant risk of injury. They deserve a safe environment. That's why we are demanding that road repairs be treated as an urgent priority."
Official Response and Broader Context
When approached for comment, officials from the Noida Authority indicated that repair work on such damaged stretches across the city would be undertaken soon. However, residents remain skeptical given the prolonged delay in addressing their specific concerns.
Sector 22, one of Noida's earlier developed sectors, is densely populated with over 20,000 residents. The civic infrastructure in this area, now over three decades old, is in desperate need of comprehensive revamping. Centrally located, the sector features a mix of:
- Residential blocks
- Small-scale industries
- Proximity to major commercial zones
- Access to prominent hospitals, markets, and shopping malls
The deteriorating road condition not only poses immediate safety hazards but also reflects broader challenges in maintaining aging urban infrastructure in rapidly growing cities like Noida.
