Patna Government Grants One-Month Extension for High Security Registration Plates
The Bihar government, through minister Shravan Kumar, has officially announced a significant one-month extension for vehicle owners who have not yet installed mandatory High Security Registration Plates (HSRP). This critical decision was made public on Wednesday, addressing the pressing issue affecting approximately 52 lakh vehicles across the state that remain without these enhanced security plates.
Mandatory Requirement for Pre-2019 Vehicles
This regulatory extension holds particular importance for vehicles that were registered before the year 2019. Minister Shravan Kumar emphasized that fitting HSRP is absolutely mandatory for all such vehicles, requiring owners to replace their conventional number plates with the new high-security versions within this newly extended timeframe.
The minister elaborated on the primary objectives behind this enforcement, stating that the measure is fundamentally designed to improve overall vehicle security while simultaneously preventing incidents of theft and unauthorized tampering. Strict Penalties for Non-Compliance
In a clear warning to vehicle owners, Shravan Kumar outlined the serious consequences of failing to adhere to this regulation. Non-compliance will invite strict legal action under Sections 192 and 50 of the Motor Vehicles Act, with substantial fines ranging from Rs5,000 to Rs10,000 per violation. This enforcement underscores the government's commitment to ensuring widespread adoption of the security plates.
Official Procedures and Authentication Features
The minister strongly urged all vehicle owners to proactively contact their respective District Transport Offices (DTOs) to update HSRP details and complete the installation process. He specifically addressed individuals who might receive compliance messages despite having already installed HSRP, advising them to visit DTOs personally to update their official records and avoid unnecessary penalties.
High Security Registration Plates incorporate sophisticated authentication features including a laser-engraved unique identification code and an Ashoka Chakra hologram, making them extremely difficult to counterfeit or tamper with.
