Ranchi Municipal Corporation Collects Record Rs 108 Crore Taxes

Ranchi Municipal Corporation Achieves Historic Tax Collection Milestone

In a groundbreaking development, the Ranchi Municipal Corporation (RMC) has successfully collected a total of Rs 108 crore in taxes during the ongoing financial year. This marks the first time the civic body has reached such a significant revenue figure, signaling a robust financial performance.

Property Tax Emerges as Primary Revenue Driver

Of the impressive Rs 108 crore collection, property tax alone accounts for Rs 100 crore, establishing itself as the largest contributor to the overall revenue. This represents a major shift from previous years, where property tax did not typically dominate the collection trends.

RMC Deputy Municipal Commissioner Gautam Prasad Sahu highlighted this achievement, stating, "We have crossed Rs 100 crore in property tax collection itself, while the overall collection stands at around Rs 108 crore. We are also expecting over a crore collection on the last day."

Factors Behind the Collection Surge

Officials attribute this substantial increase in tax collection to several key factors:

  • Intensified Collection Drives: Aggressive efforts by RMC teams to ensure compliance and timely payments.
  • Improved Digital Payment Systems: Enhanced online platforms that have simplified the payment process for residents.
  • Additional Revenue Streams: Contributions from water user charges and trade licenses have supplemented the property tax collection.

Awadh Kumar, an electronics trader in Lalpur, shared his experience, saying, "The online system has made tax payment much more convenient. Earlier, people delayed due to long queues, but now many are clearing dues on time." He added that timely reminders and easier payment options have significantly encouraged compliance among taxpayers.

Allocation of Collected Revenue

The substantial revenue collected will be strategically utilized to strengthen and enhance civic infrastructure across Ranchi. Key areas of focus include:

  1. Road development and maintenance
  2. Drainage system improvements
  3. Street lighting upgrades
  4. Sanitation and cleanliness initiatives

Priority will be given to areas that have contributed higher taxes, ensuring that the funds are directed toward communities that have demonstrated strong compliance and support for municipal services.

This record-breaking tax collection not only reflects improved administrative efficiency but also sets a positive precedent for future financial management and urban development in Ranchi.
