Uttar Pradesh's Rural Transport Initiative Gains Momentum with 286 Applications Screened
In a significant development for rural connectivity, the Uttar Pradesh government's ambitious scheme to link all 59,163 gram panchayats through public transport is progressing steadily. According to Minister of State for Transport (Independent Charge) Dayashankar Singh, applications have been received from all 20 regions of the corporation by the March 28 deadline.
District-Level Committees Screen Applications Ahead of April 13 Deadline
Minister Singh provided a detailed update on the screening process, revealing that district-level committees, headed by District Magistrates (DMs), have already evaluated 286 applications. The remaining applications are slated to be processed by April 13, ensuring a thorough review before the service launch.
The state cabinet approved this comprehensive rural transport plan on March 17, marking a pivotal step toward enhancing mobility in Uttar Pradesh's villages. The service is anticipated to commence operations in May, bringing much-needed transportation options to remote areas.
Private Minibuses to Operate in 12,200 Villages with Focus on Safety and Accessibility
Elaborating on the operational framework, Minister Singh outlined that arrangements are being finalized to deploy private minibuses in approximately 12,200 villages. Each minibus will have a maximum capacity of 28 passengers, designed to cater to the specific needs of rural communities.
The primary objective of this initiative is to provide villagers with direct and safe access to block, tehsil, and district headquarters, thereby improving connectivity for essential services, education, and economic opportunities. This move is expected to bridge the urban-rural divide and foster inclusive growth across the state.
As Uttar Pradesh gears up for this transformative project, the focus remains on efficient implementation and timely execution to meet the May launch target. The scheme underscores the government's commitment to bolstering infrastructure and enhancing the quality of life for rural residents.
