Vimal Negi Death: Family Seeks Unbiased Investigation

Family Demands Unbiased Probe into Vimal Negi's Death

The family of Vimal Negi, former Chief Engineer of Himachal Pradesh Power Corporation Limited (HPPCL), met Governor Kavinder Gupta on Monday, demanding an unbiased investigation into his mysterious death. They also urged strict action against those responsible and appealed to Prime Minister Narendra Modi to look into the matter.

Negi was found dead in Gobind Sagar Lake in Bilaspur district on March 18, 2025, several days after he went missing from Shimla. The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has been probing the case since May 2025.

Wife Raises Questions Over Investigation

Addressing a press conference in Shimla, Kiran Negi, Vimal Negi's wife, stated that over a year has passed since his death, and no investigation agency has determined whether he was murdered or committed suicide. She accused the Shimla police of trying to prove suicide by claiming Negi was depressed and incompetent.

“Had the police not destroyed the evidence, the case would have been solved by now,” she added.

CBI Highlights Corruption in Solar Project

While appreciating the CBI's investigation, Kiran Negi noted that the agency's chargesheet highlighted corruption in the 32-Megawatt Pekhubela Solar Power Project, a point the family had raised for the past year. “Vimal died while fighting against corruption, and we are proud that he never gave up in front of corrupt officers,” she said.

The family submitted a memorandum of demands to the Governor and vowed to continue fighting for justice until those responsible for Negi's death are punished.

Himachal Tribal Rights Forum Seeks Further Probe

Meanwhile, the Himachal Tribal People Rights Forum announced it would soon demand that the CBI also investigate the alleged corruption in the Pekhubela Solar Power Project.
