The Karnal district administration has suspended nine village secretaries for negligence in verifying applications under the Haryana government's Lado Laxmi Yojana, a flagship welfare scheme providing financial assistance to women. The action followed a review by Chief Executive Officer of Zila Parishad, Amit Kumar, who found that the secretaries had failed to complete mandatory beneficiary verification within the stipulated time despite repeated directions.
List of suspended officials and their postings
The suspended village secretaries are Anil Kumar of Sarwan Majra village in Indri block, Satbir Singh of Barana Khalsa, Hukam Chand of Barani Khalsa, Satbir Singh of Bodshyam, Amit Panjetha of Dabarthala, Sunil Kumar of Jamba, Jitender Kumar of Koer, Naresh Kumar of Shamgarh, Mangat Ram of Seedpur, and Amit Ahlawat of Sultanpur of Nilokheri block. The administration described the lapse as a dereliction of duty that deprived eligible women of timely benefits under the scheme.
Verification process and pending cases
According to CEO Kumar, the verification was to be done through the secretaries' user IDs. Out of 34,125 beneficiaries identified under the scheme in Karnal district, 32,519 applications have been verified, while 1,396 cases remained pending as of Wednesday evening. “During the review of the scheme, it was found that verification of beneficiaries remained pending, due to negligence. The delay directly affected eligible women to get benefits of the scheme, so these secretaries have been placed under suspension,” said CEO ZP.
Accountability and impact on beneficiaries
CEO Kumar emphasized that any delay in verification directly impacts beneficiaries and defeats the purpose of the scheme. “Accountability will be fixed wherever lapses are found,” he added. The Lado Laxmi Yojana is aimed at providing financial assistance to eligible women and promoting their economic empowerment. The suspensions underscore the district administration's commitment to strict enforcement of welfare scheme protocols.
