Applications Open for PAU Progressive Farmer Awards
Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) has invited applications from progressive farmers and women for its annual awards, which will be conferred during the upcoming Kisan Mela in September. The deadline for submissions is June 30, according to an official release.
The Directorate of Extension Education at PAU is organizing the awards. Farmers can obtain nomination forms from various centres affiliated with the university, including deputy directors of Krishi Vigyan Kendras, directors of agricultural research centres, offices of district extension experts, the chief agriculture officer, the deputy director of the Horticulture Department, and the head office of the director of extension education at PAU.
Dalip Singh Dhaliwal Award for Self-Farming
Makhan Singh Bhullar, Director of Extension Education at PAU, revealed that the Dalip Singh Dhaliwal Award is among the most prominent honours. It is given to farmers who cultivate crops themselves and includes a cash prize of Rs 5,000 along with a certificate of appreciation.
Overseas Indian Award for Diversified Farming
The Overseas Indian Award will be presented to farmers who practise diversified farming. This award carries a cash prize of Rs 8,000 and a letter of appreciation.
Ujagar Singh Dhaliwal Memorial Award for Vegetable Farmers
The Ujagar Singh Dhaliwal Memorial Award is reserved for farmers who cultivate vegetables on at least 60 per cent of their total land. It carries a cash prize of Rs 3,100 and a citation.
Surjit Singh Dhillon Award for Small Landholders
The Surjit Singh Dhillon Award will be given to progressive farmers who own up to five acres and are personally engaged in farming. It carries a cash prize of Rs 5,000.
Sardarni Jagbir Kaur Memorial Award for Women Farmers
The Sardarni Jagbir Kaur Memorial Innovative Woman Farmer Award is reserved for progressive women farmers. It carries a cash prize of Rs 3,100, a memento, and a letter of appreciation.
Bhai Babu Singh Brar Best Pond Award for Communities
The Bhai Babu Singh Brar Best Pond Award, carrying Rs 20,000 and a citation, will be presented to a village or town. To be eligible, the town must have a pond spanning at least two kanals with a minimum depth of four feet. The award is based on the cleanliness and management of the water resource.
According to PAU officials, these awards aim to recognize and encourage innovative farming practices and rural development across Punjab.
