Two men were arrested in Karnal on Friday after a truck transporting 23 cattle in severely overcrowded and inhumane conditions was intercepted by a cow protection group on Meerut Road. The accused, identified as Yashar and Mohamad Usman, both residents of Malerkotla in Punjab, were handed over to the Sector-13 police along with the vehicle. They were produced before a court, which granted a two-day police remand for further investigation.

Interception and Arrest Details

According to Sub-Inspector Jasvinder Kaur of the Sector-13 police post, members of the cow protection group received a tip-off that a truck carrying cattle was traveling from Punjab to Uttar Pradesh. Acting on the information, they intercepted the vehicle on Meerut Road and subsequently handed it over to the police. The accused were taken into custody and later presented in court, where the police secured a two-day remand.

Investigation and Animal Welfare

“We have registered a case against them and taken them on a two-day police remand for further investigation. A detailed probe will be conducted to ascertain the purpose of transporting the cattle,” said Kaur. The rescued cattle have been shifted to a nearby gaushala for proper care and treatment. The police are investigating whether the cattle were being smuggled or illegally transported, and further legal action will follow based on the findings.
