In a significant drug bust, the Special Task Force (STF) of Kangra district in Himachal Pradesh arrested three men, including two residents of Punjab, and recovered 223 grams of heroin from their possession. The operation took place near Shastri ITI in Jasur, located in the Nurpur Tehsil of Kangra district.
Details of the Arrest
The accused have been identified as Gagandeep Singh alias Gagan, a resident of Rajpura village in Gurdaspur, Punjab; Sukhdeep Singh alias Sukh, from Pherochechi village in Gurdaspur, Punjab; and Shubham Sharma alias Shibu, a resident of Gurchal village under Tehsil Nurpur, District Kangra, Himachal Pradesh.
The STF team was on routine patrol when they received a credible tip-off that several individuals were present in the area with a large quantity of chitta (heroin). Acting swiftly, the team reached the spot and stopped the suspects for a search. During the check, the police discovered the contraband in their possession, leading to their immediate arrest.
Legal Action and Investigation
A case has been registered against the three accused under Sections 21 and 29 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985, at Police Station Nurpur. The police have launched an investigation to trace the source, supply chain, and other possible links in the drug trafficking network.
A spokesperson for the police department stated, "This coordinated action reflects the unwavering commitment of the state police to curb drug trafficking, safeguard the youth from the menace of substance abuse and promote widespread public awareness against narcotics."
