A late-night biryani outing turned into an unimaginable tragedy for three young men in Telangana's Sanga Reddy district. The trio lost their lives after their motorcycle plunged into a deep, under-construction culvert on a dark road with no warning signs.
The Fatal Journey Home
The incident occurred on Saturday night, around 11:30 PM, as the friends were returning home to their village. They had just enjoyed a meal of biryani in Narayankhed. Identified by police as Narsimhulu (27), Mallesh (23), and Mahesh (18), the group was traveling on an extension of NH 161 B, a road currently under construction.
According to a senior official from Sanga Reddy police, the two-wheeler suddenly fell into a pit that was more than 10 feet deep. The victims, who were cousins, died on the spot due to the severe impact. Mallesh and Mahesh were brothers, while Narsimhulu was their cousin.
A Desperate Search and Grim Discovery
When the three did not return home as expected, worried family members tried calling their mobile phones, only to find them switched off. This prompted an immediate search operation along the route they were known to have taken.
The grim discovery was made in the early hours of Sunday at 3 AM. The family members first located the motorcycle and then spotted the bodies in the deep, dark pit. The police were immediately informed, and a recovery operation was launched to retrieve the bodies from the construction site.
Safety Lapses and a Missing Signboard
A preliminary investigation has revealed shocking lapses in basic safety measures at the accident site. Police confirmed that there was no lighting and no warning signboard at the location to alert motorists of the dangerous, open culvert.
An officer explained that a signboard which had been installed earlier was dislodged in a separate accident recently and had not been replaced. This critical absence of a safety marker in the pitch darkness directly contributed to the fatal mishap.
This tragic event highlights the grave dangers posed by poorly managed infrastructure projects, especially those on highways. It raises urgent questions about contractor accountability and the enforcement of mandatory safety protocols at construction sites after dark.
