ACB arrests government official in bribery case
The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) in Jammu arrested a government official and booked his senior colleague for allegedly demanding and accepting a bribe, an official statement confirmed on Saturday. The case has been registered under the Prevention of Corruption Act and the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) against Assistant Executive Engineer (AEE) Ravinder Krundu and senior assistant Gurdass.
Details of the bribery demand
According to an ACB spokesperson, Krundu, currently serving as Inspector of Factories and Boilers in the Labour Department, had demanded a bribe of Rs 60,000 from the complainant to clear a boiler inspection case. The amount was later negotiated down to Rs 40,000, with Gurdass acting as the intermediary. The ACB arrested Gurdass after he was caught accepting the bribe on behalf of Krundu.
Searches underway at accused premises
The spokesperson added that searches are being conducted at the residential premises of both accused individuals to gather further evidence. The investigation aims to uncover any additional instances of corruption involving the officials.
Legal action and implications
The case highlights ongoing efforts by the ACB to crack down on corruption in government departments. The accused face charges under the Prevention of Corruption Act, which carries strict penalties for public servants found guilty of bribery. The ACB has urged the public to report any similar incidents to help clean up the system.
