A case of alleged medical negligence has emerged in Agra, where a 30-year-old woman died after childbirth, prompting her family to file a police complaint against a private hospital doctor. The family claims that a wrong blood transfusion led to her death.
Investigation Reveals Negligence
Agra’s Chief Medical Officer, Arun Srivastava, stated that a probe was conducted and negligence on the part of the doctor was confirmed. A detailed report was subsequently shared with the local police for further action.
Details of the Incident
Lalita Devi, 30, a resident of Bhahai Malpura area, was admitted to the hospital for delivery on February 19. After giving birth, she received a blood transfusion, following which her condition deteriorated rapidly. Her family held Dr. Yogesh Kumar responsible and lodged a formal complaint.
Sadar Station House Officer (SHO) Vijay Vikram Singh confirmed that a case has been registered under Section 106 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), which pertains to causing death by rash or negligent acts not amounting to culpable homicide. Police stated that further action will be based on medical reports and other findings.
Family's Account
In his complaint, Lalita’s husband, Sevadas, said the attending doctor advised a caesarean section, and she delivered a baby boy around 8:30 am on February 20. Her condition began to worsen soon after, and around midnight, hospital staff instructed the husband to urgently arrange two units of blood. He procured the blood from a nearby blood bank, but even after transfusing one unit, her condition did not improve.
Sevadas alleged that despite visible symptoms such as continuous nasal bleeding, chest distress, and severe pain, the doctor and staff dismissed the condition as normal and failed to take adequate measures. Instead of stabilizing her condition, Dr. Yogesh arranged for her transfer to another facility, a private nursing home, where she died within two hours.
The police are now awaiting medical reports to determine the exact cause of death and will proceed with legal action accordingly.
