A footwear trader in Ahmedabad has approached the police with a serious complaint of extortion and intimidation, leading to the registration of a formal case. The incident highlights concerns over individuals allegedly posing as media personnel to target local businessmen.
Trader Targeted by Alleged Fake Journalist
Zakir Hussain Pathan, a 60-year-old resident of Danilimda who runs a shoe shop near the Shah Alam Roza, became the target of an extortion attempt. According to the First Information Report (FIR) filed with the Danilimda police, the accused, identified as Jayesh Thakkar, a resident of Isanpur, approached Pathan claiming to be a journalist.
Thakkar allegedly demanded money from the trader while accusing him of being involved in illegal betting activities. Pathan, in his complaint, firmly denied these allegations, stating that he had ceased any such activities long ago and was now solely focused on running his legitimate footwear business.
Money Transferred Under Duress
Fearing potential harassment and damage to his reputation, Pathan felt compelled to comply with the demands. He transferred money to Thakkar on multiple occasions between November 5 and December 3, 2025. The period of transactions suggests sustained pressure over nearly a month.
The situation changed for Pathan when he discovered that similar complaints had been filed against Jayesh Thakkar by others. This revelation gave him the confidence to step forward and seek legal recourse, leading him to approach the Danilimda police station on Saturday.
Police Register FIR for Extortion and Intimidation
Based on the complaint filed by Zakir Hussain Pathan, the Danilimda police have officially registered a case. The charges include extortion and criminal intimidation under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code.
The case underscores the vulnerability of small business owners to such schemes and the alleged misuse of professional identities like journalism for criminal gain. The police investigation is now underway to verify the allegations and gather further evidence.
