Ajmer Police Arrest 6 Members of Meerut Gang for Bus Luggage Thefts
Ajmer Police Arrest 6 in Bus Luggage Theft Case

In a significant crackdown, Ajmer police on Sunday arrested six individuals belonging to an inter-district gang from Meerut, known for systematically stealing suitcases and luggage from passengers on state roadways buses. The arrests followed a detailed investigation into a pattern of thefts where the gang specifically targeted families traveling at night.

Modus Operandi: Distraction and Theft

The police investigation revealed a calculated method. The gang members would board buses, primarily during evening or night journeys, and strategically choose seats near passengers traveling with their families. While some members engaged the family in conversation to divert their attention, another would swiftly steal valuables from their luggage. This coordinated effort allowed them to operate without raising immediate suspicion.

The Case That Led to the Crackdown

The investigation gained momentum after a formal complaint was filed by Chogaram, a resident of Pali, on October 11, 2025. He reported that nine members of his family had traveled to Hyderabad and returned to Ajmer via a direct train at 3 pm on October 11. From Ajmer, they boarded a Gujarat roadways bus to reach Pali. Upon arriving home the next day, they discovered that jewellery and ornaments were missing from their bags.

Acting on this complaint, Ajmer police, under the supervision of SP Vandita Rana, launched a thorough probe. The team scoured CCTV footage from bus stands in Ajmer, Beawar, Pali, Jaipur, and other districts. The footage consistently showed seven people boarding roadways buses together in the evening, confirming the gang's operational pattern.

Widespread Criminal History and Ongoing Probe

Police records indicate that this gang has a history of similar offences across Rajasthan. Multiple cases are already registered against them in cities including Jaipur, Behror, and Alwar. The six arrested individuals are believed to be key operatives. Ajmer police have confirmed that the investigation is ongoing to uncover the full extent of their network and recover stolen property.

The successful operation highlights the police's focus on curbing crimes against interstate travelers and serves as a warning to such organized groups operating in public transport systems.
