A powerful late-night explosion rocked the Khasa area of Amritsar late on May 5, triggering panic and raising fresh security concerns. The blast occurred around 11 PM outside a sensitive zone housing Border Security Force (BSF) and Army establishments. Despite the intensity of the blast, no casualties or injuries have been reported so far.
Details of the Incident
The explosion, described by locals as “deafening,” sent shockwaves through nearby residential areas, forcing people to rush out of their homes in fear and confusion. According to officials, the blast originated from a two-wheeler parked outside the boundary wall of the BSF–Army campus, located across the road leading to the Attari-Wagah international border. The sudden detonation in close proximity to a high-security installation has put agencies on high alert.
Security Response
Police, BSF, and Army teams rushed to the spot within minutes of receiving the information. The entire area has been cordoned off, and security was intensified amid fears of a larger threat. Forensic experts and a dog squad were deployed to comb the site for evidence. Preliminary findings suggest that the impact of the explosion damaged tin sheets fixed on the outer wall of the campuses. Security officials have remained tight-lipped over the details of the incident.
Investigation Underway
Police officials have refrained from disclosing further information, stating that a clearer picture will emerge only after a thorough investigation. Meanwhile, heavy police deployment continues in the area, with round-the-clock surveillance in place as agencies work to determine the nature, forces behind the blast, and intent behind the explosion. The Senior Superintendent of Police (Amritsar Rural), Sohail Qasim Mir, said that the police received information about a loud noise heard around 11 pm on May 5. He added that police teams rushed to the spot and found that a tin shed built over a wall had been damaged and had collapsed. Preliminary investigations suggest that someone threw an object towards the wall, which caused a minor explosion. He further informed that the police are jointly conducting an investigation into the incident.
