The Anti-Narcotics Task Force (ANTF) has arrested two drug smugglers and seized 6.76 kg of heroin in a major crackdown on drug trafficking in Ferozepur. The accused, identified as Balraj Singh (25) and Sukhwinder Singh (29), both residents of Maste Ke village in the Guruharsahai area, were apprehended near a dhaba in Jiwa Arai village after receiving a consignment allegedly linked to Pakistani smugglers.
Details of the Operation
DSP ANTF Prithipal Singh stated that the operation was based on secret intelligence indicating that the accused were in contact with Pakistani handlers and were scheduled to receive a large heroin consignment. A trap was laid near the dhaba, where the duo arrived on a motorcycle. A car delivered the consignment and left after handing over a bag to them. ANTF sleuths immediately nabbed both individuals and recovered 6.76 kg of heroin during a search.
Legal Action and Background
The accused were booked under Section 21 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act at SAS Nagar police station. Preliminary investigation revealed that Sukhwinder Singh had prior cases registered against him, including an NDPS case, and had been released on bail a few months ago. DSP Singh added, “We are investigating the case and checking the forward and backward links.”
Previous Operations
Earlier, on June 13, the ANTF had arrested three drug smugglers and recovered 6.155 kg of heroin, 2.795 kg of opium, and 485 grams of intoxicating powder in three separate operations. The latest seizure underscores the ongoing efforts to dismantle drug networks operating in Punjab.
