Army jawan dies in accidental rifle firing in J&K's Poonch

An Army jawan lost his life after his service rifle allegedly discharged accidentally in Jammu and Kashmir's Poonch district early Thursday, according to officials.

The deceased soldier, Naik BD Rao, was serving with the 16 Rashtriya Rifles at Draba in the Surankote sector. He was on night duty and was discovered lifeless at his post, an official source confirmed.

His remains were transported to the Surankote sub-district hospital for medico-legal procedures. Authorities have initiated an inquiry into the incident, sources added.

Earlier, on June 4, an Army soldier sustained injuries in a similar mishap when his service rifle accidentally fired while on duty in a forward area in the Bolnoi sector of Mendhar, Poonch.
