Police in Mohali's Balongi area have taken strict action against a local restaurant for allegedly serving tobacco-based hookah to patrons without holding the necessary licence. The case highlights ongoing enforcement against public health violations.

Restaurant Raid Uncovers Illegal Activity

According to police officials, the incident unfolded on Saturday night during routine checks near the Chhajju Majra light point. A team led by ASI Angrez Singh received a specific tip-off regarding the restaurant's activities. The information suggested that Element Open Air Kitchen, located in Bariyal, was serving tobacco-flavoured hookah to customers at exorbitant rates.

Acting swiftly on the intelligence, the police team conducted a raid on the premises. Their investigation confirmed the allegations. The restaurant was found to be serving hookahs containing tobacco without any official authorisation. The police immediately seized all related materials from the site as evidence.

Owner Identified and Legal Provisions Invoked

The authorities have identified the accused as Aman Sikka, the owner of Element Open Air Kitchen. A formal case has been registered against him under relevant sections of the law.

The charges have been framed under Section 4 of the Cigarettes and Other Tobacco Products Act (COTPA) and Section 223 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). Police clarified that the act constitutes a clear violation of laws governing the sale and consumption of tobacco products in public places, which are designed to protect public health and safety.

Police Promise Continued Strict Action

Following the raid, the police team informed their senior officers about the seizure and the violations. Officials have emphasized that such infractions of health and safety norms will not be tolerated.
