Berhampur: A 21-year-old woman student of BCA second year at a private engineering college was found dead under mysterious circumstances in her hostel on Saturday. She was found hanging from the ceiling fan of a neighboring vacant room in the hostel. She was immediately rushed to MKCG Medical College and Hospital, where doctors declared her dead.
Details of the Incident
The deceased hailed from a village in Buguda and stayed at the hostel of the engineering college. Her younger sister also studies in the same college and resides in the hostel. On Friday night, the deceased was reading in a room with other hostel inmates. On Saturday morning, when she was found missing, a search was conducted. She was discovered hanging from the ceiling fan of a neighboring room. The college authorities were informed, and she was rushed to MKCG Medical College and Hospital, where doctors declared her brought dead.
Family's Allegations
Although the exact cause of her suicide is not immediately known, her family members have attributed it to alleged mental torture by one of her boyfriends. The deceased's uncle filed a police complaint in this regard. "We came to know she might have committed suicide due to the alleged mental torture by one of her boyfriends. We are not aware of the identity of her boyfriend," said her uncle, Mangulu Pradhan.
Police Investigation
Subhranshu Parida, Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) of Berhampur Sadar, stated that a case has been registered at Golanthara police station and an investigation has been launched. The post-mortem of the body was conducted at the medical college. The exact cause of her suicide will be known only after a thorough investigation. The inquiry will cover all possible angles, including the alleged love affair, said police.
