BCom Graduate Arrested for Duping People of Rs 50 Lakh in Visa Fraud
BCom Grad Arrested for Rs 50 Lakh Visa Fraud

A BCom graduate has been arrested for allegedly defrauding individuals of approximately Rs 50 lakh under the guise of facilitating overseas travel and employment, according to police officials.

Details of the Accused

The accused, identified as S R Aggarwal, previously worked in the BPO sector until 2016. In the post-COVID period, he established an immigration consultancy operating from Jaipur and Delhi, through which he allegedly cheated numerous people by promising visas and jobs abroad.

Complaints and Modus Operandi

Police reported that a complaint was lodged by 23 individuals who claimed they were collectively defrauded of several lakh rupees after being promised work permits and visas for countries such as the United Kingdom, the United States, and Canada. The complainants stated that each of them was required to sign service agreements on non-judicial stamp papers valued between Rs 100 and Rs 500 at the consultancy's office.

After collecting payments, Aggarwal allegedly stopped responding to calls and messages. However, he continued to hold occasional meetings to reassure clients that their visa processes were ongoing, police said. Ultimately, no visas or job offers materialized.

Further Allegations

Several complainants also alleged that they were issued refund cheques, which later bounced due to insufficient funds. During the investigation, police discovered that the accused allegedly induced victims with false assurances of overseas employment and work permit visas. After the alleged offences, he vacated his rented premises in Delhi and Rajasthan and shut down his mobile phones, email accounts, and other communication channels to evade action, police added.

Arrest and Ongoing Investigation

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Economic Offences Wing) Amit Verma said Aggarwal was eventually arrested from Pune. "He is suspected to have cheated many people of approximately Rs 50 lakh," Verma stated. Police further revealed that Aggarwal is also accused in another cheating case registered in Chanakyapuri.

The investigation is ongoing, and authorities are working to identify additional victims and recover the defrauded amount.
