Bengaluru cabbie held for groping, machete attack on neighbour

A 35-year-old cab driver has been arrested in Bengaluru for allegedly groping a homemaker in her 30s, who is his neighbour, and later attacking her husband with a machete when he confronted him. The incident occurred recently on Rangarao Road in Shankarapuram near Chamrajpet.

Arrest and custody

Acting on a complaint filed by the woman, the Shankarapuram police apprehended the accused, identified as Puttaraju. He is currently in judicial custody at the Central Prison in Parappana Agrahara.

Details of the incident

The homemaker was washing utensils in the backyard of her house when Puttaraju allegedly groped her. When she raised an alarm, her husband, who works as a security guard, rushed out to intervene. Enraged by the confrontation, Puttaraju fetched a machete from his house and charged at the guard, according to police reports.

In the ensuing scuffle, Puttaraju grabbed a frying pan from the woman's utensil stock and struck the guard on the head. As the guard fell, Puttaraju snatched the machete and attacked him repeatedly, causing multiple injuries. Neighbours hearing the commotion rushed to the scene and rescued the guard, preventing further harm.

The guard was later taken to a hospital for treatment, while the accused was arrested and produced before a court. The police have registered a case under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code for assault and molestation.
