Bengaluru Man Kicks 5-Year-Old Boy in Shocking Unprovoked Attack, Arrested
Bengaluru: Man arrested for kicking 5-year-old boy

A shocking and unprovoked assault on a five-year-old boy in Bengaluru has triggered public fury and swift police action, highlighting the critical role of surveillance footage in modern law enforcement.

Disturbing Assault Captured on Camera

The incident occurred on December 14, 2025, in the Thyagarajanagar area of Bengaluru. The victim, Neiv Jain, was playing badminton with other children on Old Post Office Road near his relatives' home. At around 1:15 PM, the accused, identified as Ranjith alias Ranjan, a 35-year-old local resident and former gym trainer, suddenly approached the boy from behind.

Clear CCTV footage, which later went viral on social media, shows Ranjan running towards the unsuspecting child and delivering a forceful kick to his back. The impact sent the little boy tumbling onto the road.

Mother's Anguish and Police Action

The boy's mother, Deepika Jain, who was visiting her brother's house with her son, described the horrifying moment. She alleged that her son was kicked "like a football," which resulted in injuries including bleeding above his eyebrow and abrasions on his hands and legs.

Seeking immediate justice, Deepika Jain approached the Banashankari Police on the same day. Initially, the complaint was registered as a Non-Cognisable Report (NCR). However, following a preliminary investigation and after the video gained massive online traction, police sought and obtained permission from the II Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate (ACJM) court on December 15.

A formal case was then registered under section 115(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). The police swiftly identified and arrested the accused, Ranjan.

Accused's Background and Investigation Findings

Investigations revealed that Ranjan, an unmarried man living in the same neighbourhood, had quit his job as a gym trainer. A senior police officer stated that while there are no prior criminal cases against him, Ranjan is reportedly suffering from mental health issues and is undergoing treatment. The officer added that the accused tends to remain isolated.

This alarming event has sparked a broader conversation about public safety for children and the importance of surveillance systems. The police have assured the public that all necessary legal actions will proceed based on the evidence collected.
